501 - The legend

It is only a simple number, a number that was given to the kind of fabric out of which the most famous garment was and is still made today. But it stands for the best sold product of Levi Strauß & Co.:

the Levi´s 501.

It is - like all other Jeans - held together by copper rivets, but there is one speciality about them: both rivets that hold the watch pocket on the right can only be seen at the 501 type.

These legendary Jeans always had buttonsca. 3kB JPG, originally four, later five, because the zipper had not been invented then. The upper button has a number on it, which stands for the factory where the trousers were made.

As the 501 "returned" in 1985, it made the button fly presentable. The embroidery on the back pockets, the double- bows, symbolises the pinions of an eagle. The five belt loops were first attached to the 501 in 1922, so it was possible to wear it with a belt, though the buttons for the suspenders still remained there until 1937. But it was still possible to order them with the "snap on" buttons. The Red Tab, is attached to the left seam of the right back pocket and shows that this is a real Levi´s.

The "BIG E"!

From 1936 to 1971 the tab said "LEVI´S" but since then it says "LeVI´S" and if you wanted to buy such a "Big E" you would have to pay a lot of money, as there are a lot of collectors that look especially for these Jeans. For example, someone wanted to buy a Levi´s from 1927 for $30.000 from a family in Denver, but they refused and said they wanted to have $75.000 Dollars for these trousers, which have originally been sold for $3.02 . The leather label on the back of every pair, that is also something that shows you that this is an original Levi´s, is sewed with the typical orange coloured sewing-cotton.
